I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the
train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim...And one
called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the
whole earth is full of his glory!" And the foundations of the thresholds
shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.
And I said: "Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I
dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the
King, the Lord of hosts!" --Isaiah 6:1-5
In America, we recently had some elections. People went to the
polls to help decide who our leaders should be. Sometimes, the choice is
difficult! Learning where the candidates stand morally and otherwise, it's
often the choosing of "the lesser of two evils." Isaiah's vision reminds us
to look up...beyond our city, our state, our country, our continent, and see
that. . .
1) IT'S A MONARCHY. There is actually a King reigning on high! He's not
elected by popular choice. He's it! No one else is qualified for the job.
Our King is magnificent!!
2) HE'S IN TOUCH WITH HIS PEOPLE. His train fills the "temple." The
connection to Him is by spiritual access. We, in New Testament times, have
access to Him because of Jesus. "We have confidence to enter the holy
places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for
us," Hebrews 10:19.
3) HE IS HOLY, HOLY, HOLY! Pure and set apart. Completely free from all
evil and any trace of impurity. Our politicians struggle to keep any form of
purity, it seems. This King is completely and totally above reproach! Wholly
trustworthy! ALL good!
4) WE NEED HIS CLEANSING. Sometimes we think, "I'm doing pretty well! I
don't commit any "major" sins; I'm working for the Lord..." But when faced
with the Awesome Presence of the King, we realize how our own human efforts
are worthless, Isaiah 64:6. We need HIS cleansing. He's the only One who cam
make us able to stand in His sight. And again, He's provided that at great
expense to Himself by His Son Jesus. "Christ...offered himself without
blemish to God, [to] purify our conscience from dead works to serve the
living God," Hebrews 9:14.
SO TODAY...we must exist under earthly rulers now. But through the
eyes of our hearts we can look up, look higher, to see THE ONE, the True
King, in His glory. And we can rest in hope, knowing that we are His.
Earthly rulers come and go. HIS kingdom is forever! Hebrews 1:8.
